Sophos

Wot no comments?

The Pickards

It seems that publicising the existence of this blog on the main SophosLabs blog has had the desired effect, and a stream of new readers have appeared.

Hi to all of you - and thanks to those of you who took the time to tell me today that you had found the blog either through the SophosLabs link or the centre of sheer egotism that is grahamcluley.com.

It seems the stuff about whether the people of Troy would be annoyed about malware being called Trojans rather than Trojan horses has caused a stir, and I’m sure many of you have rushed to download our latest Security Threat Report to see if Katherine in the marketing department got her way.

On a different topic, I received a message from JackP. JackP runs an interesting site called ThePickards, which occasionally mentions web security stuff, and shunts in the odd reference to classic 1960s ‘Doctor Who’ - two good reasons to give it a visit if you ask me.

JackP writes:

What about those comments, then? A blog without comments is only half a conversation: sure, other people can talk about what you say on their sites, but you’ll get better feedback if you allow comments – even if you pre-moderate them all and only allow on-topic comments.

Otherwise, annoying so and so’s like myself will have to email you our comments instead!

Well JackP, I put my hands up. When I first started this blog internally inside Sophos people could leave comments. The wizards in our web team, however, got a bit twitchy when the site went live and stuttered muttering things about making sure the CAPTCHA code works properly on the site before rolling it out to the public.

John in the web team assures me he’s going to start fiddling with the code for leaving comments in a week or so, so hopefully we’ll have that up-and-running shortly. Meanwhile web goddess Ema is going to start tinkering with the look and feel of the blog - there’s a few things that can be fixed with the navigation for instance.

We’re sorry the blog isn’t yet perfect, but hopefully you’ll agree that the most important thing was to get some content up there rather than worrying about every bell and whistle. The blog will grow, evolve, and eventually sit in a bath chair with a blanket over its knees like a much loved relative. Just give it time.
