As a Product Manager, you will drive the inception, development and successful launch of new products and will maximise the profitability of existing products. You will be responsible for key new Sophos products in the area of IT security and control for medium and large size businesses, as Sophos continues to extend its offering from the core anti-virus products to encompass other areas of IT security and management.
You will be responsible for all key decisions related to your products and will be the internal champion for your product line. You will work closely with engineers, the IT team and SophosLabs who develop and maintain your products and services, as you guide and influence sales managers, sales engineers, the Marketing team, and Technical Support.
You will also spend time with customers and partners to understand problems and find appealing and competitive solutions. You will possess a unique blend of business and technical understanding.
This position is based at our headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. It will require occasional travel within the UK and globally.
Main duties
- Work as part of a team of four product managers, reporting to a group product manager responsible for all Sophos endpoint security products
- Manage the entire product lifecycle for your products from strategic planning through launch, sales and maintenance to end of life
- Present to and influence the Senior Management Team to make the case for new product investments
- Define clear, prioritised, market-driven product requirements for new product developments for the Software Development and Product Test teams
- Work with software developers, testers and project managers to refine requirements and translate them into released software requirements to time and with quality
- Create and communicate product positioning statements and work with the product marketing team to prepare Marketing, Sales, Technical Support, Web, Finance, and IT departments for product launch
- Monitor revenue and contribution performance of products against plans
- Work with the group product manager, Product Management colleagues and senior managers to ensure that the product roadmap and positioning is consistent with overall company strategy
Experience and skills
Essential:
- Degree level education or equivalent
- Background in technology industry
- Product management experience, including responsibility for full product lifecycle for global technology-based products
- Experience of building business case for new product introductions
- Experience of defining new product requirements
- Experience of presenting to senior executives
Desirable:
- Background in technical IT/ software
- Experience in software product management
- Experience of security software
- Experience of desktop management software
To be successful in this role, you will need to:
- Prioritise effectively
- Be able to take responsibility for decisions arising from complex information that can sometimes be contradictory or incomplete
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
