Role

This is an excellent opportunity in which you will work as part of a cross-functional team, ensuring the quality of Sophos's products. You will execute product functionality tests as you identify, raise and report product defects to a Test Lead.

You'll have a good working knowledge of common operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OS X), and will be skilled at reviewing documents based on technical content. Confident in following written procedures precisely and methodically, you will also be able prepare clear written summaries of results and managing your time to ensure that you meet all short-term targets.

This role is based at our headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

Main duties

Set up hardware and operating systems so that they are ready to perform test cases, in line with requirements explained by Test Lead
Follow written instructions to execute test cases on specific areas of product functionality and check outcomes against expected results provided by Test Lead
Enter defects into the bug tracking system by recording the steps that were taken to exercise the functionality and the technical problem that occurred, so that tests can be easily replicated and results can be analysed by Test Lead
Monitor outcomes of tests and raise issues/ trends to Test Lead
Provide Test Lead with information and suggestions based on knowledge and previous experiences, to assist in the creation of test schedules
Commit to weekly work plans and ensure completion of objectives so that the test schedule is delivered on time
Produce reports, as agreed with Test Lead, on number of tests executed and findings to allow Test Lead to track overall progress and reliably manage projects
Explain test results to software developers, technical writers and other departments as directed by Test Lead, and seek feedback to assist Test Lead in deciding where to direct further test activity

Experience and skills

You will need to demonstrate the following:

Good working knowledge of common operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, OS X)

Experience in the following is desirable:

Manual execution of test cases
Writing test cases
Testing software
Working on the server side of various platforms (NT, 2000 and 2003)
Basic scripting (e.g. MS-DOS batch, Applescript, UNIX shell scripts)
