Release Engineer

In this role you will build, test, and release software distributions to both external and internal customers in line with defined schedules.
You will be able to identify and communicate relevant information and will possess good interpersonal skills. This role will require you to work from 8am – 4.30pm or 10am - 6.30pm to provide cover.
This position is based at our headquarters in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
Main duties
- Prepare and compile clean release code in line with secure procedures
- Ensure timely delivery of builds to interested parties in line with monthly build cycle
- Work with project teams to improve and document build processes, procedures and tools to reduce risk and improve predictability of build schedules
- Identify and report problems to manager so that disaster recovery procedures can be updated to guarantee availability of production systems
- Maintain and install equipment and software for production purposes as directed by your manager
- Prepare systems for test-case execution, ensuring that previous tests are cleared, and the system is clean and updated in line with requirements
- Execute test cases to verify product functionality in the presence of malware
- Generate reports on product defects, test activity and progress for assigned areas of responsibility and escalate findings to your manager
- Escalate issues to manager and inform appropriate contacts in the wider Engineering team and Product Management as directed by your manager
- Review, maintain and develop test scripts and tools
- Share knowledge and experiences with software developers, technical writers and other departments to develop understanding of processes, difficulties encountered and opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency of approach and product quality
Experience and skills
You will need to demonstrate experience in the following:
- Reasonable working knowledge of Linux / UNIX or Windows
- Basic Scripting e.g. DOS Batch, UNIX shell
- Troubleshooting simple network / hardware problems
Experience in the following is desirable:
- Installing / managing MS desktop OSs
- Reasonable working knowledge of MacOS-X
- Advanced scripting e.g. Perl, Python, AppleScript
- Experience of Perforce, Bugzilla
- Exposure to Software Configuration Management
