Sophos's double award win

Abingdon-based Sophos Anti-Virus, a global leader in computer anti-virus protection for businesses, has won two prestigious awards. Sophos has been named one of Britain's top 100 unquoted companies for the second year running in the annual Sunday Times PricewaterhouseCoopers Profit Track 100 league table and has been ranked one of Britain's fastest growing companies in the Deloitte & Touche/Indy 100 list.

In the Profit Track 100 competition, Sophos was applauded for driving up profits by 50 percent a year from £2.9m in 1999 to £9.7m in 2002. Sophos's position in the league table rose to 48th position from 56th the previous year.

"Maintaining profit growth is one of our key goals as Sophos grows", said Peter Lammer, joint CEO Sophos Anti-Virus. "It is on the foundation of healthy profits that we are able to build a strong, stable and innovative global business."

The PricewaterhouseCoopers Profit Track 100 is independently compiled by research company Fast Track and published in The Sunday Times. Companies are ranked according to their annual growth in profits over the three years to their latest financial year (either 1998-2001 or 1999-2002). Profits are defined as operating profits with directors' renumerations added back in. Eligible companies must be registered in the UK, unquoted and ultimate holding companies, not subsidiaries.

The Deloitte & Touche/Indy 100 candidates are assessed on company's growth rates via sales figures. The awards are open to private or listed UK companies that had a turnover in the range £5m - £100m in their most recent audited and filed accounts and were profitable in the most recent year. Rankings are based on revenue and compound annual growth over a four-year period.
