Sophos announces opening of North American virus lab
Sophos provides extended global protection for customers as the threat of viruses to today's business environment continues to escalate
Lynnfield, MA - Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against spam and viruses, today announced the opening of a North American virus lab in Lynnfield, MA. Sophos currently operates a global network of virus and spam labs in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. With the addition of this latest lab, Sophos will be able to further extend protection for its customers worldwide across all time-zones.
As the threat of viruses continues to escalate along with a growing trend of collusion between virus writers and spammers, IT professionals are working harder than ever to defend their company's networks. Sophos experts keep one step ahead of viruses and spam with 24-hour analysis, ensuring rapid response to any new threat anywhere in the world.
"Major virus outbreaks are an "all hands on deck" activity for Sophos," said Chris Belthoff, senior security analyst at Lynnfield-based Sophos, Inc. "Our virus researchers in our UK lab are at work five hours before our East Coast lab, providing an early warning capability for viruses that are launched in Europe. At the other end of the day, our Australian virus lab staff provides an added margin of protection from viruses that start in Asia. Given the time zone differences, organizations around the globe need to be protected regardless of their location. Our North American lab will further extend the level of protection."
Sophos has always been committed to raising awareness of computer security. By their very nature, the threats associated with viruses are rapidly changing, and Sophos provides a comprehensive range of information about new viruses and hoaxes. Sophos also keep its customers informed with monthly updates on new and revised virus threats, as well as providing information on its website and via email about current issues.
Veteran virus researcher, Richard Wang, will manage Sophos's US virus lab operations where he and his team will work seamlessly with the company's other labs.
