Sophos email appliance receives "gold medal" in SC Magazine test Independent test praises excellent spam-detection rates, easy deployment, good monitoring and reporting tools
IT security and control firm Sophos announced today that the March 2008 edition of SC Magazine has tested its ES4000 email appliance, which provides gateway protection against spam, viruses, spyware, and other malware. SC Magazine awarded Sophos's email security appliance 4 out of 5 stars, praising its excellent spam-detection rates, easy monitoring, good monitoring and reporting tools.
Testers at SC Magazine said they were "impressed to see [ES4000] delivering a 97% success rate at correctly identifying spam" over a two week period, without suffering from any false positives.
While most appliances slot in a security element which often require extensive hands-on management, the reviewer explains that Sophos's ES4000 stands out due to its two-fold approach to management and monitoring, with Sophos remotely monitoring and alerting the customer of any issues, such as hardware faults.
"Clearly, the ES4000 puts in a fine performance in the anti-spam department, with the default policies delivering an excellent score in our live tests," wrote SC Magazine. "Reporting is very extensive, with good policy analysis tools, and we particularly liked the fact that the ES4000 is quite capable of looking after itself."
"This appliance is easy to deploy and manage and gets a gold medal for its impressive anti-spam performance," concluded SC Magazine.
