Release notes are published on the Sophos Install CD and Sophos website at www.sophos.com/support/docs. 2 About Sophos Control Center ----------------------------- Sophos Control Center is a management console that can be used to install Sophos Anti-Virus and Sophos Client Firewall remotely, and to configure, update, monitor, manage and report on Sophos products running on Windows and Mac OS X computers. For information on installing Sophos Control Center for the first time, see the "Sophos Computer Security SBE 2.0 network startup guide" or "Sophos Anti-Virus SBE 2.0 network startup guide". For information on upgrading, see the "Sophos Small Business Solutions 2.0 upgrade guide". The guides are available from the Sophos Install CD or from the Sophos website. 3 New in this version --------------------- Sophos Control Center now allows you to: * Centrally install, configure, update and monitor the latest version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000 and later (now with detection of potentially unwanted applications, or PUAs). Centrally configure, update and monitor the latest version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 98/Me. * Centrally configure, update and monitor the latest version of Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X. * Centrally install, configure, update and monitor Sophos Client Firewall (if your license includes it). * When searching for computers on the network, automatically retrieve a list of computers from an Active Directory server. * Set up scheduled scanning of your Windows computers from Sophos Control Center. * Clean up computers, i.e. deal with malware (viruses, worms, Trojans and spyware) and Potentially Unwanted Applications from Sophos Control Center. * Authorize applications to run on networked computers. * Define central policy for PUA scanning, detection, notification and authorization. * View the summary of threats on the network (in the "Summary of threats" pane in Sophos Control Center). * Resolve alerts about threats and errors from the "Resolve alerts and errors" dialog box that provides categorized view of all active threats on your computers and a list of possible actions, such as "Cleanup" or "Authorize". * See which computers comply with the central configuration policy, using the "Central configuration" column in the computer view. * Generate reports on malware and PUA trends by threat name, computer name or time period, and display them as a bar chart or table. * Schedule a weekly threat report to be emailed to a list of recipients (from the "Configure notifications" dialog box). The reports can be sent in text, CSV or HTML format. * View detailed overview and history of any computer listed in the computer list (from the "Computer details" window). 4 Issues resolved in 2.0.1 -------------------------- A number of improvements have been made to the Sophos Control Center installer within the 2.0.1 release: * Previously the installation could freeze or hang when an MMC.exe process was running. Now if an MMC.exe process is identified during installation a message is displayed which asks the administrator to close the MMC manually or use a provided option to close the MMC process automatically. * Sophos Control Center can now be installed on Domain Controllers that are not running with the PDC Operations Master role. * Improvements have been made to the installer to prevent DCOM related errors when installing or opening the Sophos Control Center. 5 Known issues -------------- * Computer names must use the standard ASCII 7 format to be valid in Sophos Control Center. Computers with names containing accented or non-Roman characters are not recognized. * If you reinstall Sophos Control Center, it will not automatically import computers it previously managed. During the reinstallation process, Control Center will rediscover all computers connected to the network and offer the options to protect the computers. 6 Additional information ------------------------ * The Sophos Control Center runs in English whenever Hong Kong locale is detected. * Automatic installation or upgrade of Sophos Anti-Virus from Sophos Control Center is not possible on Windows 98/Me or Mac OS X computers. You will need to install the software on each such computer individually as described in Sophos Control Center Help, "Protect computers manually" in the section "How do I get started?" * Scheduled scanning is not available for Mac OS X computers. 7 System requirements --------------------- Operating system requirements: Windows 2000 (SP3 or later) Windows XP Professional (SP1 or later) Windows Server 2003 Windows Small Business Server 2003 Sophos Control Center is not supported on 64-bit versions of Windows. Note: Sophos recommends that a server operating system is used, that is, Windows 2000 Server (SP3 or later), Windows Server 2003, or Windows Small Business Server 2003.
