Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare release notes ------------------------------------------- Contents -------- Version numbers New in this version Additional information Information from previous versions Technical support Copyright Version numbers --------------- Sophos Anti-Virus : 4.33.0 Threat detection engine : 2.78.0 Threat data : 4.33, September 2008 New in this version ------------------- * The threat detection engine and threat data have been updated. Additional information ---------------------- * Scanning options in NetWare To use the options below, Sophos Anti-Virus must be unloaded and reloaded. -ARCHIVE options (immediate and scheduled modes only) The following archive types can be scanned. The default status is OFF. These options are enabled by the command line qualifier -ARCHIVE and disabled by -NARCHIVE. They can also be individually enabled/disabled, using enabling and disabling qualifiers, as shown below: Option Enabling Disabling Default ------ -------- --------- ------- LZA/LHA compression -LHA -NLHA OFF Microsoft Compress V5 -MSCMP -NMSCMP OFF Self-extracting archives -SFX -NSFX OFF MacBinary -MBIN -NMBIN OFF BinHex -BHEX -NBHEX OFF ARJ -ARJ -NARJ OFF Z -CMZ -NCMZ OFF TGZ, GZ -GZIP -NGZIP OFF RAR -RAR -NRAR OFF TAR -TAR -NTAR OFF ZIP -ZIP -NZIP OFF UUEncoded files -UUE -NUUE OFF Microsoft Cabinet -CAB -NCAB OFF The self-extracting archives option applies to ARJ, LZH/LHA, RAR and ZIP. If used individually -SFX must be used with the desired archive type, e.g. -SFX -ZIP. When archive file handling is turned on, Sophos Anti-Virus for NetWare will automatically treat files with archive extensions as executable. Note that these extensions will not appear in the Executables list, as shown in the Administration menu. Note: when -ARCHIVE is used in combination with individual qualifiers, the result is order-dependent. The effect of earlier qualifiers is overridden by later ones. E.g. -ARCHIVE -NLHA would turn on all types except LZA/LHA compression, whereas -NLHA -ARCHIVE would just turn on all types (including LZA/LHA compression). -ARCHIVEOA (real-time mode only) To scan inside archives in real-time mode, you must use the command line qualifier -ARCHIVEOA. You cannot enable/disable scanning of individual archive types in real-time mode. Other file scanning options Scanning for the following file types can be enabled individually. Scanning for them is not enabled using -ARCHIVE. Option Enabling Disabling Default ------ -------- --------- ------- Scrap object handling -SCRAP -NSCRAP ON Office 95 decryption -DXO95 -NDXO95 OFF In addition, scanning of InstallShield CAB files is not enabled using -ARCHIVE. If you want to scan these files then contact Technical Support. File decompression When decompressing archive files, Sophos Anti-Virus uses a combination of server memory and disk (the latter is slower but typically there is more available disk space than memory). Memory is used initially, up to a set maximum per level of compression. The default for this maximum is 10 MB but it can be configured via the qualifier -MMBS=, followed by the desired number of bytes. Thus, in default mode, a ZIP within an ARJ (making two levels of compression) would use a maximum of 10 MB of memory at the first level of compression before using disk space and a maximum of 10 MB at the second level, resulting in a maximum of 20 MB. Information from previous versions ---------------------------------- 4.30.0 * (DEF 21427) MIME scanning has been improved.
