Opportunities
My last blog entry was just before I went on vacation and before the holiday weekend. As is the tradition in the UK, the bank holiday Monday was cold and wet and I predicted that it would be busy. I turned out to be wrong and it was actually a quiet weekend. I’m more than happy to proven wrong, especially on this sort of occasion.
Evidently one of the most popular entries so far has been on the topic of BadBunny and my comments that SophosLabs wouldn't employ the author. There is a myth that we write the malware (simply not true) and another myth that we employ virus writers as analysts. Again this is simply not true, writing malware is relatively simple, reverse engineering it, analysing what it will and won't do and writing detection and removal for it is a much more challenging task. Even more challenging is to stay one step ahead of the malware authors and write proactive detection and create new and improved detection techniques for all forms of malicious activity.
This is the challenge for us in SophosLabs and we're currently looking for more people to join us both in the UK, Canada and in Sydney (as soon as we've expanded the lab). By the way, you don't need to have a computer science education; we have analysts from a wide variety of backgrounds, Physicists, Chemists, Philosophers and even Theologians.
So if you are looking for a challenge, and have an analytical mind and computer experience, we want to hear from you.
Mark Harris, Director of SophosLabs
