Alicia Keys, MySpace and the suspicious Chinese hack
News on the wires this morning alerted us to a MySpace hack. Malware researcher Roger Thompson alerted the world to this hack within his blog.
Malware authors are interested in attacking MySpace (see 1) because of its high media profile and the opportunities it provides to infect potentially huge numbers of home users. Corporate users are slightly better protected from such attacks due to enforcement of computer use policies.
This attack against MySpace involved the insertion of links to Chinese websites with URLs of the form “.cn/s/”. The currently known sites were down at the time of writing.
Where is the link within the MySpace page? As you can see in the picture below, the link is in an area not normally clickable within the page.
