Sophos Alert detected as a virus? No cause for concern.
I’ve just been contacted by a concerned customer, that emails sent out by the Sophos Alert Service were reported to have contained a script virus. These are the emails that we in SophosLabs send out when we issue new identities, these emails are plain text and do not contain HTML content.
The customer in question uses another security product as well as Sophos (presumably at the email gateway). I’ve reassured the customer and verified for ourselves that this is a false positive (the term used to describe the case when a file or email is incorrectly identified as malicious). Any other users that are concerned should contact the vendor in question.
