Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS 8 or OS 9: launching the Installer to update gives the error "CarbonLib could not be found..."

Launching Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS 8 or OS 9 Installer to run an update gives the message 'CarbonLib could not be found'.

Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS 8 or 9 makes use of an extension called CarbonLib. This is needed to run the Installer and the on-demand scanner.

What to do

Ensure that CarbonLib is placed in the Extensions folder of the active System Folder and is enabled in the Extensions Manager control panel.

CarbonLib comes as part of the standard installation of Macintosh OS 9 and later versions. If you use an earlier version than Mac OS 9.0, or if you want to update to the latest version, you can download the appropriate version from Apple's website. Note: You will need to register with Apple using your name and a valid email address to be able to download files.
