Sophos Anti-Virus for OS/2: disinfecting a virus in Boot Manager
Almost all known boot sector viruses execute only in DOS mode. However, OS/2 systems with Boot Manager configured can become infected while DOS is running, or if booted from an infected floppy disk.
- First, check the website entry for details of the virus and disinfection procedure.
What to do
If the OS/2 Boot Manager is infected, the computer will need to be started in standalone mode:
- If OS/2 is running, shut it down.
- Boot OS/2 from the OS/2 Utility disk set. Follow the on-screen instructions. When booting has finished, the A: prompt appears.
- Leave the last OS/2 Utility disk in the drive.
- Use the OS/2
FDISK(orLVM) utility to delete and reinstall the Boot Manager. Detailed instructions can be found in IBM's OS/2 documentation.
