Sophos Anti-Virus for OS/2: issue with emergency OSWEEP disks

Note: Sophos Anti-Virus for OS/2 has been retired. Please refer to the product retirement page for more information.

OSWEEP sometimes cannot run from the emergency Sophos Anti-Virus for OS/2 disks. Part way through loading the virus data, which is spread over several floppy disks, it fails with error message "Cannot locate the main virus data file".

This can happen if OSWEEP runs out of memory while loading the virus data.

What to do

  1. Ensure the computer has 32 MB of RAM, or more.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Edit CONFIG.SYS on the second utility disk. Change any line beginning MEMMAN= to
      MEMMAN=NOSWAP
      (in upper or lower case). Reboot from the utility disks.
    • Alternatively, if booting Warp 4 Convenience Pack 2 (also known as MCP2), add a line
      EARLYMEMINIT=TRUE
      to the CONFIG.SYS on the second disk (if it is not there already).
      Note: This is incompatible with some device drivers and can prevent booting. In that case, use the MEMMAN=NOSWAP solution.
