EM Library: using with Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX

Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX can be updated with EM Library by using the installation script eminstall.sh. This script installs or updates Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX from files in a Central Installation Directory (CID) set up by EM Library.

For a full description of this process and available options, see the file eminstall.txt in the tar file.

Note: When an update occurs, the UNIX InterCheck server will be stopped and then restarted.

What to do

To install using EM Library for the first time, do as follows:

  1. Set up a mount point for the CID
Set up a mount point for a directory on a UNIX server which can be
    • accessed by all the UNIX computers to be installed/upgraded
    • accessed by the Windows computer which uses EM Library to download the Sophos Anti-Virus for UNIX files.
This mount point is the CID.
  2. Setting up the eminstall.conf file
On each UNIX computer to be updated by EM Library, make an eminstall configuration file (etc/eminstall.conf) to tell the EM Library installation
    • where the CID is located
    • where the local cache directory will be found.
    For example:
    EM install CID = /mnt/mainserver/cid
    EM cache dir = /sav_install_cache

The example above gives the default directories. The EM install script will create those directories when it is first run.
Note: The cache directory must be separate from the directory where you install the software.
  3. Setting up the cron job
Set up a cron job to run eminstall.sh regularly. This job should be run by the root user.
Note: Any output or error messages from the EM install script will be emailed by cron.
