EM Library: updating and downloading tips
Note: Do not install libraries and Central Installation Directories (CIDs) on computers that might go into a power-down mode.
- Inaccurate download time
- Dial-up connections not made to databank
- Changing library settings during download
- Warning message "Could not open requested resource..."
- EM Library fails to update a Central Installation Directory (CID)
The following issues can apply when EM Library is performing downloads and updates:
- Inaccurate download time
The last download time displayed on the main screen may not be accurate if the download was from a parent library, rather than directly from the databank. - Dial-up connections not made to databank
If you run EM Library on Windows NT4, dial-up connections to the databank may not be made automatically unless someone is logged onto the computer. - Changing library settings during download
Do not close, attempt to view, or change library settings, while the library is downloading files or updating CIDs. One of the following may occur:- The settings will be rejected, with a warning.
- The main Configuration screen may display 'Create library' and 'Open library' buttons as if the library no longer existed. If the library does not reappear correctly after a few minutes, select 'Open library' to reopen it.
- Warning message "Could not open requested resource..."
Occasionally, a warning message of this type may be seen:The '\\server\SophosEM' library update task has succeeded, but there were exceptions that require further attention. File '//files/0000xxxx.dat' (filename.xyz) copied from parent. Could not open requested resource 'http://downloads.sophos.com:80/sophos/ products/emtest/databank/files/0000xxxx.dat'. HTTP status code: 404 (Not found) VFS 0x80040403 File '/files/0000xxxx.dat' is missing from the local library. The correct file is being downloaded from the parent library. INDEX 0x800700006'
You can ignore this warning message. The file has been downloaded correctly and no further action needs to be taken. - EM Library fails to update a Central Installation Directory (CID)
This can happen if the CID is locked by computers that are attempting to update themselves. An Information message is generated on the first two failed attempts. If the problem occurs three times in succession, an error message is generated. For example:Failed attempt to lock the CID for writing. INDEX 0x80040a02
You can usually clear the problem by removing and then reapplying the share on the CID.
