EM Library: which Sophos databank should I use?
There are four Sophos Endpoint Security and Control databanks:
Each pair of databanks comprises 'latest' and 'central' types.
All Sophos Endpoint Security and Control customers can use any of these databanks. Your credentials are valid for all of them. For most customers 'latest' databanks are the best choice.
Note:
- Packages for Sophos
Anti-Virus version 7 and above (as well as for Sophos Endpoint Security and Control) are only available from the Enterprise Console 3 and above databanks. - If you are still using the old databanks,
es-latest.sophos.com/updateandes-central.sophos.com/update, you should upgrade immediately.
Databank types
All of these databanks include packages for Sophos
In both versions of the databanks there are two databank types:
- 'central'
- 'latest'.
Note: If you change between databanks, the list of available packages does not refresh until the next package download.
Why you should use 'latest' databanks
This is the recommended setup for most customers.
You should use es-latest-3.sophos.com/update or es-latest-2.sophos.com/update
- if you always want to update to the latest engine version of Sophos
Anti-Virus automatically, which gives you the latest protection capabilities in that engine. - if you want to minimise the amount of data downloaded across the internet when checking for the latest versions.
Why you should use 'central' databanks
You should only use es-central-3.sophos.com/update or es-central-2.sophos.com/update if you would like to use an internal change control process on new versions of Sophos
The 'central' databanks include 'fixed' versions of Sophos

Enterprise Console version 2 databanks
Note: Enterprise Console, version 2, and Sophos Anti-Virus, version 6.0, will be retiring on 31 May, 2008. You should upgrade now to ensure your that protection stays up to date.
The databanks available for use with Enterprise Console version 2 and Sophos
- es-latest-2.sophos.com/update
- es-central-2.sophos.com/update (this resolves to databank.sophos.com/databank).
How to change the databank from which you obtain updates
- In the EM Library console tree, right-click EM Library and select Properties.
- Click the Primary parent tab.
- In the dropdown menu, select the appropriate databank address.
Obsolete databanks
The old databanks, es-latest.sophos.com/update and es-central.sophos.com/update, are now obsolete. You should upgrade immediately.
- Installations of EM Library 1.2 with Enterprise Console version 1 used es-latest by default.
- Older installations made with EM Library 1.1, or earlier, used databank.sophos.com/databank by default (this now resolves to es-central.sophos.com/update).
