How do I know which Sophos software product my computer is using?

The notes below tell you how to identify which Sophos software products you are using on a Windows computer. You may be using more than one.

While some versions of Sophos Anti-Virus will run on all current types of Windows computers, other products will only run on servers, not on workstations.

What to do

  1. In the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, select Start|Programs (or 'All Programs'). Look for the word Sophos.
    • If the menu choice is 'Sophos', go to 2.
    • If the menu choice is 'Sophos SWEEP' or 'Sophos SWEEP for NT', go to 4.
  2. Look at the next menu choice. All of these programs will be Sophos programs.
    • If one of the following menu choices is a Sophos Anti-Virus folder, a version of Sophos Anti-Virus is installed.
    • If one of the following menu choices is a Sophos Client Firewall folder, Sophos Client Firewall is installed.
    • If one of the following menu choices is Sophos Control Center, this computer is the management server for Sophos Anti-Virus Small Business Edition.
    • If one of the following menu choices is EM Library, this computer is also running EM Library.
    • If one of the following menu choices is Enterprise Console, this computer is also running Enterprise Console.
    • If one of the following menu choices is PureMessage your computer is running a version of PureMessage. Go to 3.
    • If one of the following menu choices is MailMonitor for SMTP, your computer is running MailMonitor for SMTP.
    • If one of the following menu choices is MailMonitor for Exchange, your computer is running MailMonitor for Exchange.
    • If one of the following menu choices is MailMonitor for Notes, your computer is running MailMonitor for Notes/Domino.
  3. Look at the menu choices other than PureMessage.
    • If your computer is also running the Sophos Control Center, your computer is running PureMessage Small Business Edition.
    • If the Sophos Control Center is not present, your computer is running PureMessage for Windows/Exchange.
  4. These two menu items indicate an older version of Sophos Anti-Virus.
    • If the menu choice is 'Sophos SWEEP', your computer is running Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 95/98/Me, maintenance version.
    • If the menu choice is 'Sophos SWEEP for NT', your computer is running Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003, maintenance version.
