Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: computer repeatedly requests a reboot during installation
During installation of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, the target computer repeatedly requests a reboot, even after it has been rebooted. The target computer may display the error message:67000000 Failed to install C:\Program Files\Sophos\AutoUpdate\cache\savxp: A reboot was required.
Similar issues with similar solutions may be seen with error 3002 or error 3001 or error 3000 being reported during installation.
What to do
Try the following, in order:
- Reboot the computer.
If rebooting does not work,
- Check for the presence of the file:
%windir%\temp\SophosRebootTest.txt - If you find it, delete it.
- Install Sophos
Anti-Virus .
If problems persist, check the following registry entry:
Please read the Warning about editing the Windows registry before making any changes to the registry. Only edit the registry if you are confident that you can do so safely.
- Check the registry entry HKLM/Software/Sophos.
- If it incorrectly reports that an old version of Sophos
Anti-Virus is present, delete the entry.- If you are unable to delete this entry, give everyone full control over the entry, then propagate that change to all child objects.
- Delete the registry entry.
- Remove the following registry keys:
HKLM\Software\SophosHKCU\Software\SophosHKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\InterCheck* (remove all entries that begin with InterCheck)HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SWEEP* (remove all entries that begin with SWEEP)HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Sophos-SweepNT - Under
HKLM\Systemcheck all 'ControlSetXXX' entries (for example ControlSet002\Services). If you find an entry that contains 'InterCheck' or 'SWEEP' delete that entry. - Reboot the computer.
