Enterprise Console: error displayed 'Cannot start Enterprise Console'
When you try to connect a remote Enterprise Console to a Sophos management server (i.e. the computer on which you have EM Library installed) in a peer-to-peer network, you get an error message:
Cannot start Enterprise Console. Only members of the Sophos Console Administrators group on xxx are allowed to run the Sophos Enterprise Console.
This occurs where the usernames and passwords on the two computers do not match.
You may see a similar issue on an EM Library remote console. (It will offer to create a new library although the library is already created).
What to do
You must create a new user with appropriate name, password and permissions as described in the procedure below. Refer to your Windows documentation for details of how to do this.
- Create a user that has the same username and password on both computers:
- the computer on which EM Library is installed
- the computer running the remote Enterprise Console.
- On the computer on which EM Library is installed, make sure that the new user is part of the following local groups:
- Sophos console administrator
- EMLibrary Users
- (Windows) Administrator.
- On the computer on which Enterprise Console is installed, on each occasion before you start the console,
- Hold down the 'shift' key and right-click on the console's icon.
- Select 'Run as'.
- Enter the username and password of the new user.
