Advisory: Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows version 4.0.2 - changes to the user interface

This product is nearing retirement. We strongly recommend that you upgrade in order to ensure your protection stays fully up to date.

A new user interface will be incorporated into Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows when version 4.02 is released in February 2006.

NOTE: This only applies to Sophos Anti-Virus, versions in maintenance. It will not affect current versions of Sophos Anti-Virus, version 4.5.0 and above.

This article illustrates the changes that you will see in different parts of the user interface, all accessible from the Sophos Anti-Virus window:

The button bar

The appearance of the buttons has changed, but the functions remain the same:

Starts scanning (formerly 'Go')

Ends scanning (formerly 'Stop')

Opens a dialog box in which you can configure scanning

Opens a dialog box in which you can configure virus alerts

Connects you to Sophos virus analyses on the Sophos website

Tabs

Different tabs may be displayed, depending on which components of Sophos Anti-Virus are installed and the status of the user. Some will only be seen by an administrator.

The tabs are as follows:

File dropdown menu

On the 'File' dropdown menu, the 'Go' and 'Stop' options have been replaced by 'Scan' and 'Cancel Scan'.

The on-screen log

This contains information about the current session. If an Administrator user opens the Sophos Anti-Virus window, it also displays the scheduled and on-access log messages reported since the service was started.

Scanning configuration screens

The names of the scanning levels have been changed.

Log files

There is a change of terminology in the log files. If you read or parse these files you may see the following strings:
