Enterprise Console: maintaining Sophos Anti-Virus version 6 packages with version 3

This product is nearing retirement. We strongly recommend that you upgrade in order to ensure your protection stays fully up to date.

When you upgrade from Enterprise Console version 2 to Enterprise Console version 3 or 3.1, if you move to the version 3 'latest' databank, your computers running Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ version 6 will be automatically upgraded to version 7 or above. See below for details.

What to do

To stagger the update process, do as follows.

Before you upgrade

  1. In EM Library, select 'Select Packages'.
  2. Right-click the 'Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows v6..x' IDEs only package. Select 'Subscribe'.
  3. When prompted to create a central installation directory (CID), select 'Yes' and follow through the wizard.
  4. When prompted for the CID location, select 'Custom CID location' and change the name of the CID (for example use \\servername\InterChk\ESXP_fixed instead of \\servername\InterChk\ESXP).
  5. Once the CID has been created, select 'Download packages' to populate the CID.
  6. In Enterprise Console, configure the computers currently using the Sophos Anti-Virus version 6 'latest' package to point to the new CID.

If you are using child libraries, you must publish the fixed package so that it is available for subscription from your child libraries. You must then perform the above process for all child libraries.

After you upgrade

  1. Once you have upgraded to Enterprise Console version 3 or 3.1, open EM Library.
  2. Choose 'Select Parent', and select http://es-central-3.sophos.com/update.
  3. Then choose 'Select Packages'. You will have been subscribed to the Sophos Anti-Virus version 7 package automatically. However, your fixed package will remain subscribed to version 6.x.

With the above configuration, your networked computers will continue to update from the new Sophos Anti-Virus version 6 fixed CID that you created.

Moving to Sophos Anti-Virus version 7.x

You can then implement a phased transfer to Sophos Anti-Virus version 7.x.

Note: Fixed packages are only maintained for three months. If you do not migrate all of your computers to Sophos Anti-Virus version 7.x within three months, you will need to subscribe to the most recent fixed packages. Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ version 6 is being retired on 31 May 2008, so please ensure that you upgrade before then.

Technical details

If you upgrade to Sophos Endpoint Security, including Enterprise Console version 3.x, from Enterprise Console version 2, and you configure EM Library to point to the new es-latest-3.sophos.com databank, your current Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ version 6 (Latest) central installation directory (CID) will automatically be rolled over to Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ (Latest). However, this 'Latest' package will be the one for version 7.x.
