Automatic upgrade of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows from version 6 to version 7

Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, version 6, is nearing retirement. We strongly recommend that you upgrade in order to ensure your protection stays fully up to date.

In early November 2007 the 'latest' package for Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ version 6.x will be automatically upgraded to Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+ version 7.x. At this point, any computers that update from a Central Installation Directory (CID) using the latest package, and any computers that update directly from Sophos, will automatically be upgraded to version 7. Support and automatic updates for version 6 will end in May 2008.

This upgrade will use the same process as any monthly update, and will be invisible to the user. However, the size of the update will be larger than a typical monthly update. All settings will be preserved, and a reboot will be requested (see below).

Note

What to do

Upgrade to Sophos Anti-Virus version 7.

Important: When Sophos Anti Virus upgrades to version 7 a reboot of all computers is required. Your computers are still protected, even if you do not reboot immediately.

Technical details

Sophos Anti-Virus version 7 not only stops malware, adware and potentially unwanted applications, it also has detection/protection for suspicious files, runtime behavior and buffer overflows.

Successive versions of Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows offer increasing levels of security and control. We recommend that existing customers upgrade to Sophos Anti-Virus, version 7.0 to ensure maximum security and control for their systems.

You should also take advantage of the enhanced capabilities in Enterprise Console version 3.0 that lets you centrally manage the new Sophos Anti-Virus capabilities as well as the new Dashboard and email alerting.
