Sophos Anti-Virus SBE: error message during installation "CreateGroupAndUser_mgmtsrv [...] Return value 3."
During the installation of Sophos Anti-Virus Small Business Edition (SBE) version 2, the following error message is reported:
Setup has encountered an unknown error and cannot recover. Setup will now rollback. Function name: CreateGroupAndUser_mgmtsrv
Action ended 14:58:01: InstallExecute. Return value 3.
The CreateGroupAndUser_mgmtsrv part of the installer does as follows:
- It creates the 'Sophos Console Administrators' Windows group.
- It gets a list of members of the Administrators group.
- It then adds the members of the Administrators group to the newly created, or already existing, 'Sophos Console Administrators' group.
If part of this process fails, then the installation will fail.
This can be because no groups have been created, or because the groups were created, but are corrupt.
What to do
Check to see if the above group exists.
If it exists:
- Delete all of the Sophos groups.
- Reinstall.
Otherwise:
- Create the Sophos Console Administrators group manually.
- Add the relevant local and domain Administrator accounts to it.
