Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: updates fail and log shows Windows error 1208
Issue
One or more client computers running Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+, version 6.x, fail to update.
When you look in the ALC.log on the client computer(s), you see the entry:
Could not add a connection to server \\server\Sophos : User Sophos_AU_Client : Windows error 1208

What to Do
On the server go in to Active Directory:
- Go to Users|Sophos_AU_Client.
- Right-click 'Properties' and select the 'Account' tab.
- In the 'Account options' section, ensure that 'Password never expires' and 'User cannot change password' are checked. Click OK.
- Now go to Users|Sophos_AU_Server.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3.
The client computers should now be able to connect.
Note: Active Directory synchronisation can take 15 minutes or more. Allow this amount of time for the client computers to connect.
Technical Information
This issue can occur if the Sophos_AU_Client account (and possibly the Sophos_AU_Server) have expired in Active Directory.
