Sophos Anti-Virus: you receive an error when you run 'Protect Computers'

Issue
When you run 'Protect computers' from the Sophos Control Center or the Enterprise Console you see the following error in the console, logged against the computer it applies to:

ERROR Cannot access the folder from where the installation is run from 00000034

Sophos product and version
Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+

Operating system
Windows XP Professional SP2

What to do

For Sophos Control Center

  1. In the Sophos Control Center, click-on 'Update Now.
  2. After the Sophos Control Center has finished updating, run 'Protect new computers' for the affected computer.

Sophos Anti-Virus should now install.

For Enterprise Console

  1. Check EM Library for any warnings in the Message Log.
  2. Check the Sophos Auto-Update Policy within the console. Make sure it has the correct Updating path and Credentials specified.
  3. Delete the affected client computer from the group within Enterprise Console and re-find it.
  4. Re-protect the client again.

If this fails:

  1. Open EM Library, and go to Central Installations.
  2. Right-click the Central Installation Directory (CID) that has the issue and select 'Update CID'.
  3. After this has finished updating, run 'Protect new computers' for the affected computer.

Sophos Anti-Virus should now install.
