Advisory: Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X shows a red cross on the Sophos shield and gives an error message
Issue
On computers running Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X, the Sophos blue shield shows a red cross, and an error message 'AutoUpdate is not running' is displayed.
This has occurred because on Saturday 29th September at 4pm GMT Sophos released an identity which caused AutoUpdate in the Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac OS X product to fail.
An interim solution was put in place at 10am on Sunday 30th September.
What to do
You must restart Sophos AutoUpdate in one of the following ways:
- Reboot the affected computers.
- If you have affected computers which cannot be rebooted (e.g. servers), run the following command from the Terminal which will restart AutoUpdate. The command must be run as root:
/usr/libexec/StartupItemContext /sbin/SystemStarter start "Sophos AutoUpdate"
A full fix will be available in the next release of Sophos Anti-Virus for OS X; version 4.9.4.
