Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+: updates fail following password change
Issue
EM Library and client computers fail to update after changing the Domain\Admin password.
Sophos product and version
Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 2000+
Operating system
Windows 2003 SP1
What to do
NOTE: You should avoid using or changing the admin password. However, if you have done so, the following will resolve the issue:
- Change the Updating policies to reflect the correct password within Enterprise Console.
- Select group, right-click and choose 'View group policy details'.
- Take note of the updating policy in particular ('OK' out of window).
- Right-click the noted updating policy in the Policies listing and choose 'View/Edit policy ...'.
- Choose 'Configure' for appropriate OS. In the new window, you should now be able to change the updating password from the previous to the new password. None of the other details should need to be changed.
- Confirm groups affected, and close the dialogue(s).
- Change the 'EM Library account for services' to reflect the correct password.
- From the left pane, select EM Library.
- Select Tools|Options... |Security
- At the bottom, you may see the Administrator account, select Change.
You should now be able to change the password from the previous to the new password. - Click OK|OK
Updates should start working, but may not be immediate.
